Frequently Asked Questions
Where do I upload the file?
On the photo step of your DS-160 application on CEAC. IDShot saves the file as ds160-photo.jpg. Save it to Files if you'll upload from a browser on your iPhone.
Why won't IDShot fix my background?
The U.S. Department of State does not accept photos that have been altered with software or AI, including background changes. Stand about an arm's length in front of a plain white or off-white wall, with even light and no shadows, and take the photo again.
My file uploaded, but the photo was not accepted later. Why?
IDShot checks technical specifications only. Final acceptance is decided by the U.S. Department of State. Officers also review things like expression, lighting, glasses and background, which IDShot cannot guarantee.
How do I restore my purchase?
Tap the ⓘ button at the top right of the first screen, then “Restore purchase”. You can also tap “Restore purchase” on the payment screen. Unlimited exports can be restored. A single-photo export covers one photo and is not restored.
Does IDShot upload my photo?
No. Everything runs on your iPhone, and your photo is never uploaded. See the Privacy Policy.
Is IDShot an official government app?
No. IDShot is an independent app and is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of State or any government agency. It does not submit visa applications.
